Small 3-Piece Bathroom Design Ideas

Small 3-Piece Bathroom Design Ideas

Not every bathroom has large amounts of space. For example, you may have an ensuite in your master bedroom or a downstairs cloakroom for guests. These bathrooms are usually much smaller than your family bathroom, often a humble 3-piece. It’s easy to become stuck on design ideas when it comes to small bathrooms, but in this sized space, clever design choices are key. You must make the most of the space you have in order to utilise it to its full potential.

Not each of our projects has to be on a huge scale; we take every project with the same approach and put our heart into every design.

Small But Mighty

Sometimes, a small bathroom can make much more of a statement than a large, empty-looking bathroom. While you’re working with a physically smaller space with less room to be creative, you need to be clever with your design choices and take time to ensure you’re making the most out of the room that you have. This takes skill and shouldn’t be a passing thought; you need to analyse your space and ask yourself what you want to get out of it. You can do this by considering who will use the bathroom; is it for guests or a personal ensuite? Also, think about how you want it to tie into the rest of the house. Do you have a contemporary, sleek, and modern aesthetic around your home? Or do you prefer a traditional English farmhouse design?

Answering these questions will help you get started on the design of your small 3-piece bathroom.

Light, Bright, and Airy

The key to making the most out of a small bathroom is using light carefully. You want the space to be light, bright, and airy. A small bathroom can be a fantastic addition to your home, but a small, dingy bathroom is something you want to avoid as you’ll find it becomes an unpleasant and claustrophobic space to be in.

If your 3-piece bathroom doesn’t have a window, you need to ensure the room is well lit with artificial lighting that doesn’t strain your eyes. LED strip lighting in the bottom of cabinets is an excellent idea for mitigating eye strain, especially for trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night or early in the morning when it’s still dark outside.

If you have a window, choose light coloured blinds to keep the space bright and airy. If you can, keep the window open as much as possible as the room could start to feel cramped and stuffy if you don’t.

Use Colour Wisely

Don’t be afraid of using colour in your 3-piece bathroom. You may think that in order to enlarge the space, you need to use white and light shades, but this isn’t necessarily the case. If you want to incorporate bright, bold, or even dark colours into your bathroom, why not choose coloured bathroom tiles for your sink’s backsplash? From there, you can create a theme with your bathroom décor. For example, select reed diffusers, hand towels, or soap, all in the same colour. This is a great way to subtly tie in your colours and create an effective colour scheme for your small bathroom.

Clever Storage Ideas

One of the most vital design elements to a small 3-piece bathroom is clever storage. If you have the space, choose storage below the sink and a wall-mounted mirrored vanity cabinet. These are excellent ideas for increasing the amount of storage in your room in a subtle way without having personal items on display.

Items left out can make your bathroom look cluttered and take away the attention from your design choices. Avoid placing anything with bright, obnoxious branding and if the items need to remain in the bathroom (such as toilet cleaner), consider transferring them into re-fillable, aesthetically pleasing containers.

Mirror Mirror on Every Wall

Choosing mirrored bathroom furniture is a fantastic way to artificially enlarge the space you’re working with. As mentioned, a mirrored cabinet is a great choice as it creates the illusion of a larger area and acts as a storage solution simultaneously.

Additionally, consider using large statement mirrors to add depth. For example, the back of the bathroom door is often wasted space; this could be the perfect place for a full-length mirror to create some height to your room.
