How to Keep Your Kitchen Surfaces Looking Spotless

Keeping your kitchen clean is essential; where food is concerned you need to make sure that you are doing everything in your power to keep germs and bacteria at bay.

Within a kitchen, there are many surfaces which can harbour bacteria, such as floors, worktops and even wall tiles. Although you may think that a quick wipe down with a damp cloth will suffice, there will still be bacteria on the surface.

We’ve put together a quick guide to help you clean the surfaces of your kitchen, paying particular attention to the areas in which you will be preparing food.

Kitchen Worktops

Worktops are the main area that you will want to focus on first. This is where you will be preparing and cooking food, so you will need to make sure that you are cleaning the whole worktop to ensure that it is safe to place food on.

There are various different types of worktop, so let’s look at some simple cleaning tips for each one.

Ceramic Tiles

For a quick and easy clean, wipe your tiles (even your Fusion wall tiles could benefit from this!) down with hot, soapy water or a kitchen disinfectant.

Ceramic wall tiles will need a bit more work when it comes to keeping things spotless and bacteria free, but it doesn’t require much more effort.

You will need to focus on the grouting between the tiles as well as the tile surface, so grab a toothbrush that you won’t be using again and create a solution of one part bleach to four parts water. Scrub the solution over the grout and wipe over with a damp cloth to remove any residue left over.

Natural Surfaces

Many worktops are made from materials such as wood, granite or quartz and don’t require much exertion to keep clean.

Cleaning requires the use of hot, soapy water of a disinfectant, just like ceramic tiles. If you come across any stubborn stains, use a cream kitchen cleaner and rub over the surface until the stain lifts.

Wooden surfaces will need to be re-oiled every few months to ensure that they stay water and stain resistant.

Stainless Steel

If you have a modern kitchen interior, you may have stainless steel worktops. These are also incredibly easy to keep clean and only require a wipe with hot water and washing up liquid which can then be dried by buffing with a soft cloth to keep that worktop sparkling.

You’ll probably notice that your worktops are prone to finger marks and they can be a pain to fully remove, especially if they are there for a while- no one wants a messy, shiny surface!

It may seem a bit strange, but cooking oil and baby oil are great solutions which help you rid your surface of fingerprints. Dab the oil onto a clean, soft cloth and work over the entire surface- you’ll notice the shine returning and those pesky finger marks disappearing.

Having a clean kitchen is one of the best feelings ever and reducing the amount of bacteria which tries to make your kitchen their home is also a huge plus.
